REUZEit’s 2024 Carbon Baseline and 2029 Reduction Goal

Building a Low-Carbon Future: REUZEit’s 2024 Baseline and 2029 Reduction Goal

At REUZEit Inc., sustainability is not just a responsibility—it’s central to our role in enabling the circular economy for scientific equipment. We are proud to share the results of our first greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, setting a clear baseline and defining ambitious goals for the years ahead.

Establishing Our Baseline (2024)

In line with the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, REUZEit completed its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions inventory for 2024. Our boundary includes three U.S. facilities located in Temecula, CA (HQ), Hayward, CA, and Franklin, MA. Together, these sites cover 105,000 ft² of primarily warehouse and office space.

Our 2024 results are as follows:

  • Scope 1 (Direct emissions): 14.31 tCO₂e (from one diesel box truck and one LPG forklift).
  • Scope 2 (Indirect emissions, electricity): 93.87 tCO₂e (calculated using U.S. EPA eGRID regional factors, location-based and market-based).
  • Total Scope 1 + 2 emissions: 108.18 tCO₂e.
  • Carbon intensity: 1.03 kg CO₂e per ft².

This baseline provides the foundation against which we will measure our progress.

Our Target: 21% Absolute Reduction by 2029

We have formally adopted 2024 as our base year and committed to an absolute reduction of 21% in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2029. This equates to lowering emissions from 108.18 tCO₂e to approximately 85.5 tCO₂e over five years.

To reach this goal, our strategy includes:

  • Collecting and validating actual utility and fuel data across sites.
  • Exploring renewable electricity contracts and renewable energy certificates (RECs).
  • Improving operational efficiency through lighting, equipment upgrades, and electrification of vehicles and forklifts.
  • Monitoring Scope 3 impacts, particularly travel and logistics, to align with client reporting needs.

Supporting Our Client’s Net Zero Journey

This commitment directly supports our valued client, Thermo Fisher Scientific, in reaching its Scope 3 reduction goals. By transparently reporting our footprint and setting clear reduction targets, REUZEit strengthens its role as a partner in Thermo Fisher Scientific’s global sustainability program.

Looking Ahead

Sustainability is a journey. With our 2024 baseline in place and a science-aligned reduction target set, we are positioned to deliver measurable progress by 2029. Through these actions, REUZEit is not only reducing our environmental impact but also enabling our clients and partners to achieve their net zero ambitions.

Justin Andrews

I am a blue ocean strategist, visionary entrepreneur, and co-founder of REUZEit, where I share the helm with my brother. Together, we are pioneering and establishing circular equipment management as a service for the Life Science industry. Our clients are also our suppliers, they are blue-chip enterprises, using billions in equipment for their operations. We support those operations by managing excess, reverse logistics, project planning, lab transfers to site closures, and more. Without the need for subscription, the value of the equipment contributed is what grows our eco-system. The more excess equipment we manage, the better for everyone. In 2018, I relocated to Europe to expand REUZEit’s footprint in the EMEA region. From our base in Blieswijk, Netherlands, I established a new branch of REUZEit, bringing our circular asset management solution to a growing network of clients. We’ve integrated our platform with European business practices, combining Dutch innovation and sustainability with REUZEit’s global impact. My academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Nevada and a Master Brewer degree from UC Davis. At REUZEit, we live by our ‘Landfill Last’ policy, constantly working to extend the life of valuable equipment while helping our clients achieve their environmental and financial objectives.
